What headlamp is best for rockhounding?
For most rockhounding, choose a comfortable hands-free light with a useful medium-output beam, enough runtime for the trip, a power or backup-light strategy, and a manufacturer water/weather rating that matches the conditions. Do not choose from peak lumens alone.

Redundancy beats a single impressive battery.
A hybrid AAA/rechargeable system can be attractive for travel and long days because it gives a second power path. A rechargeable 18650 system can provide high output, but remote trips still need a charged backup plan.
