North Macedonia protects designated geological, paleontological and speleological features through nature-protection law and site proclamations. Kuklica and Matka Canyon are protected nature monuments, while active mines and quarries remain concession/operator controlled. Tourism access, an archaeological trail or a known mineral occurrence is not specimen-removal permission.

The Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources documented a field visit to SASA on 4 April 2026, confirming the mine as an operating strategic mining facility. A broad town-level point is used instead of routing users to active workings.

North Macedonia Timeless describes Kokino as an early Bronze Age observatory on a neo-volcanic hill where hardened lava and natural rock fractures form the astronomical setting. The map routes visitors to the public approach rather than encouraging off-trail collecting.

Kuklica is a protected Natural Monument and one of North Macedonia’s best-known volcanic-erosion landscapes. The national tourism authority identifies the site as a rare geomorphological formation, while the Ministry lists the law proclaiming Kuklica a Natural Monument.

Matka is a major karst canyon near Skopje with steep sedimentary rocks, multiple caves and vertical shafts. The Ministry continues to list the re-proclamation process for Matka as a Natural Monument and its nature department maintains a revaluation study for the protected area.
