Holtug Chalk Quarry — Rule-Bounded Fossil Collecting Rockhounding Status & Field Guide

A rare protected-site record that still has explicit fossil-collecting rules. The site operator permits examination/take-home of fallen chalk or limestone while banning chipping of the cliff/ground and collection from Fiskeler.

Important: Never chip the cliff or quarry floor and never collect from Fiskeler. Only work with fallen material where current rules allow.

What is here

Cretaceous-Paleogene chalk and limestone with sea urchins, corals, shark teeth and occasional mosasaur material

Materials / interest: Chalk, Coral Fossils, Fossils, Limestone, Mosasaur Fossils, Sea Urchin Fossils, Shark Teeth

Collecting and access

Collect only from fallen blocks/lumps under Stevns rules. Do not chip the quarry ground or cliff face, and do not collect from the Fiskeler boundary layer.

Parking at Holtug is very limited; the current site recommends parking at Mandehoved and walking via Trampestien. Navigation is therefore not pinned to a quarry-floor position.
