⌖ Wickersham Dome Trailhead — White Mountains National Recreation Area, Alaska, United States

Wickersham Dome Trailhead closes 1–21 Oct

Published · +00:00

BLM’s Eastern Interior Field Office is temporarily closing Wickersham Dome Trailhead in the White Mountains National Recreation Area from 1 October through 21 October 2026, or until construction is complete for the season. During the closure there is no access to Summit Trail or Wickersham Creek Trail from this trailhead. Alternative access to Wickersham Creek Trail and Lee’s Cabin is available at Elliott Highway milepost 23.5. The White Mountains recreation area includes recreational gold-panning opportunities elsewhere, so field users should reroute and avoid the closed trailhead.

⌖ India — nationwide mineral prospecting, India

India mineral prospecting — legal baseline recheck

Published · +00:00

Legal-status recheck for 27 September 2026: India’s MMDR framework continues to require mineral reconnaissance, prospecting and mining operations to be carried out under the applicable statutory mineral concession or other authorised framework. The 2026 MMDR amendment addressed the mineral-sector regulatory and fiscal framework; it did not establish a general recreational gold-prospecting exemption. Treat hobby mineral prospecting as permission/authorisation dependent. This is a baseline verification, not a newly announced closure.

Western Australia prospecting rights — rule recheck

Published · +00:00

Rule recheck for field planning: a Western Australian Miner’s Right authorises prospecting for minerals, including gold, use of a metal detector for prospecting, limited handheld sampling and fossicking on qualifying Crown land that is not subject to a mining tenement. A Miner’s Right does not by itself authorise those activities on private or reserved land. This is a current-rule verification, not a newly announced opening.

Moonstone Hill September fire ban – current conditions require verification

Published · +00:00

EDITORIAL CAUTION — 11 October 2026: The September 23–27 fire-ban notice is historical, while the same QPWS alert warns that open-fire prohibitions may remain until further notice. Current fire restrictions must be checked with QFD and QPWS; do not assume fires are now permitted. Fossicking still requires a valid licence and is permitted only in the resources reserve, not the national park. Earlier bulletin: Moonstone Hill Resources Reserve remains a licensed fossicking location. A local fire ban applies in the Flinders Shire/Blackbraes area through 27 September 2026; open fires and solid-fuel appliances are prohibited while the ban is in force. Fossicking is permitted only in the resources reserve, not Blackbraes National Park, and requires a Queensland fossicking licence.

Published · +00:00

BEFORE YOU GO

Field updates, explained

Does “allowed” mean I can enter and collect anywhere?

No. It applies only to the named activity, place, time and stated conditions. Land ownership, claims, permits, posted rules and closures still apply.

How often is this page updated?

New admin-published notices appear automatically at the top. Each notice shows its actual publication and edit time. “Daily Updates” is an editorial workflow, not a claim that every location is checked every day.

What if a notice is overdue for review?

It is marked “Recheck needed.” A missed review does not establish a reopening or permission. Confirm the latest position with the responsible land manager.

What do the GPS coordinates mean?

The precision label explains whether a point is an entrance, site reference, approximate location or unverified coordinate. A pin is not a property boundary.
