Top Moffatt camping area closed during Mount Moffatt bushfire response
Published · +00:00
13 October 2026 field update. Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service reports that a current bushfire has caused temporary closures in the Mount Moffatt section of Carnarvon National Park. Top Moffatt camping area is closed while bushfire response operations continue; the same official alert also lists Gadd’s walkers camp as closed. The alert applies from 13 through 19 October 2026, and QPWS says facilities will reopen only when conditions are considered safe. Visitors must obey barriers, signs and ranger directions and should check the live park alert and current fire warnings before travel. This is an access and safety closure, not permission to collect rocks, minerals, fossils, detect metal or prospect within the national park.

Eungella and Cathu 1080 baiting safety alert issued 12 October
Published · +00:00
12 October 2026 editorial update. Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service issued an official park alert on 12 October concerning coordinated 1080 wild-pig poison baiting in Eungella National Park and Cathu State Forest. The baiting is scheduled for Wednesday 14 October 2026 if weather permits. The authority says remaining baits will be collected where possible from Wednesday 28 October, but the warning is listed as applicable through 20 November 2026. The alert states visitors should not touch or move baits or animal carcasses; dogs must be kept away from poisoned material. Follow all signage and ranger directions. Importantly, this is a safety advisory and not a declaration that the entire park or state forest is closed, and it does not grant rock, fossil, mineral, metal detecting or prospecting permission. Confirm the authority’s latest alert and individual site rules before visiting. This regional advisory does not identify a verified specimen-collecting point, so no GPS coordinate is assigned. Girraween National Park cuts camping capacity by half through December
Published · +00:00
Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service park alert 26998, published and updated on 18 September 2026, says camping capacity in Girraween National Park is reduced to 50 percent from 6 October through 31 December 2026 to conserve limited water during declared drought conditions. Bald Rock Creek has stopped flowing and remained stagnant since February, with severe impacts on creek health and park water availability. The restriction is about campsite bookings and water conservation; it does not announce a total park closure. Empty-looking pitches may not be available because of the reduced booking allocation. Camping without a valid permit remains an offence. Visitors should book through the Queensland Parks service, take adequate water and check live park alerts before travel. This is a camping-capacity and visitor-planning update, not a permission to collect rocks, minerals or fossils. Jourama Falls camping, day-use and lookout closure scheduled 12–16 October
Published · +00:00
Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service park alert 26987, originally published 16 September 2026, announces a closure of the Jourama Falls section of Paluma Range National Park from Monday 12 October until 2 pm Friday 16 October 2026 for maintenance to roads and tracks. The affected visitor facilities include Jourama Falls camping area, Jourama Falls day-use area and the lookout walk. Park staff and machinery are expected along roads and tracks in the closed section. QPWS advises visitors not to enter during the closure. Campers holding bookings between 11 and 15 October should follow the agency cancellation and refund instructions. This is a scheduled restricted-access bulletin, not a declaration that the whole of Paluma Range National Park is closed. Check the live QPWS alert, updates and signs before travel; changed conditions or extended works may alter dates. The alert does not authorize removing rocks, minerals or fossils in the park. Paluma Range Blue Gum circuit closed 9–23 October for planned burns
Published · +00:00
Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service park alert 27046, updated 7 October 2026, announces weather-dependent planned burns between 9 and 23 October 2026 at Paluma Range National Park. The Blue Gum circuit track off H track is closed for the stated period. Smoke, crews, machinery or aircraft may be visible around Paluma–Ewan Road, H track, Taravale Road and nearby creeks. This is a closure of the named circuit, not a blanket declaration about every location in the national park. Obey signs and closures, check current fire notices before travel and do not treat this geological or wildlife viewing landscape as a rock-collecting permission area. Lawn Hill Gorge bushfire: camping, tracks and day-use closed until further notice
Published · +00:00
Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service’s official park alert 27015, updated on 8 October 2026, confirms that the Lawn Hill Gorge section of Boodjamulla National Park (Aboriginal Land) remains CLOSED until further notice because of bushfire activity. The closure covers Lawn Hill Gorge camping, creek canoeing, walking tracks, day-use areas and other visitor facilities in the closed section, and suspends permits for those closed areas. Park rangers will reopen only after determining conditions are safe. The alert lists other Boodjamulla-related park areas in its coverage, but the specifically described closure is the Lawn Hill Gorge section; do not infer that every Riversleigh locality has the same closure without checking its own notice. The published notice’s 15 October applicability window is NOT a promised reopening date. There is no collecting permission in this alert. Check current signs and the park authority before visiting.

⌖ BLM-managed prescribed-burning treatment areas across Oregon and Washington (regional context), Oregon and Washington, United States
Oregon–Washington BLM prescribed-burning season: check local conditions
Published · +00:00
The Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Wildland Fire Service announced seasonal prescribed-burning operations on BLM-managed areas in Oregon and Washington. Burns are scheduled when weather, fuels and air-quality conditions are favorable, with work continuing through autumn and winter. The announcement does not establish one statewide road closure or identify a universal collecting restriction. Because active work areas shift, visitors should check the applicable BLM district’s current burn notices, posted closures and air-quality or smoke conditions before traveling. Treat this as a regional planning alert only, not an exact collecting location or a legal permission to remove specimens.

Mount Logan prescribed-fire operations: October–December visitor caution
Published · +00:00
BLM Arizona Strip District and the U.S. Wildland Fire Service announced planned prescribed burns on approximately 500 acres between Mount Logan and Mount Trumbull within Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument. Burning may occur between October and December 2026 when weather conditions permit, near BLM routes 1044, 1029, 1064, 1768 and 1016. The official announcement says no local road closures are expected; this notice therefore does not mark these routes closed. Smoke and firefighting activity may affect visits. Before traveling, verify that prescribed burning is not underway along the intended route and heed any on-site directions. 1943 bronze Lincoln cent Houston trend: rare-error coin identification guidance for detectorists
Published · +00:00
Google Trends signal: “1943 bronze lincoln cent houston” reached 2K+ U.S. searches in the supplied 1-day trend export. The trend started 2026-10-03 at 05:00 UTC+5 and ended at 07:30 UTC+5. Houston Chronicle reported on 2026-10-03 that Houston-area coin dealers Kenny and Matthew Duncan acquired a genuine 1943 bronze Lincoln cent from a local family; the coin was authenticated and reported as valued above $235,000. The story is useful for metal detectorists and coin finders because ordinary 1943 Lincoln cents were struck in zinc-coated steel during World War II, while a very small number were accidentally struck on leftover bronze planchets. PCGS lists a genuine 1943 Philadelphia bronze cent at approximately 3.11 g and 95% copper, 5% tin and zinc, compared with the normal 1943 zinc-coated steel cent at approximately 2.70 g. A genuine bronze example should be non-magnetic; a 1943 cent that sticks strongly to a magnet is consistent with the normal steel composition, including copper-plated steel fakes. PCGS also warns that altered 1948 dates and plated steel cents are common sources of false 1943-copper claims. A potentially valuable find should not be cleaned, polished, scraped, chemically treated or otherwise altered before professional authentication because cleaning can damage the surface and collector value. This Houston story does not identify a public detecting location, dig site or permission area. Houston is the news and ownership context only; do not publish a GPS point or imply that detecting is permitted at the dealer, former owner property or any nearby site. For USA Rockhounding, the strongest use is an educational metal-detecting and coin-find update explaining identification, magnet and weight checks, common counterfeits, authentication and safe handling of potentially rare finds.

Sulphur HMA gather closures restrict public access

BLM began the 2026 Sulphur Wild Horse Gather on 2 October 2026. During active gather operations, BLM temporarily closes certain public lands around gather locations to public access under 43 CFR 8364.1 for public and animal safety. Gather locations can change as operations move through the HMA, and public observation is limited to BLM-escorted tours when conditions allow. Holei Sea Arch collapse: unstable coastal cliff hazard; rock collecting remains prohibited
Published · +00:00
Google Trends signal: “holei sea arch” reached 2K+ U.S. searches in the supplied 1-day trend export, starting 2026-10-03 at 03:10 UTC+5 and still active when the export was captured. The National Park Service announced on 2026-10-01 that the approximately 90-foot (27.4 m) Holei Sea Arch in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park had collapsed into the Pacific Ocean. NPS states that the arch was still standing on 2026-09-23 and had collapsed by the night of 2026-09-27; the exact collapse time is unknown. The arch was cut into a sea cliff formed from a lava flow about 550 years old. NPS explains that rough surf progressively enlarges sea caves and arches until the remaining rock bridge eventually fails. The coastline around Holei had shown instability for years: earthquakes associated with the 2018 Kilauea eruption and summit collapse damaged nearby cliffs; new cracking prompted closure of the original viewing area in January 2020; and later storm-driven surf removed part of the lower arch. Current field implication: visitors must remain out of closed areas and stay well back from cliff edges because unstable coastal cliffs can collapse without warning. This is not a rockhounding or collecting opportunity. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park rules treat lava, rocks, sand, dirt and other natural mineral resources as protected; possessing or removing them from the park is illegal except under applicable scientific authorization. The former arch is useful as a geology and coastal-erosion update, but visitors should not approach the closed or unstable cliff area or remove material.

No. It applies only to the named activity, place, time and stated conditions. Land ownership, claims, permits, posted rules and closures still apply.
How often is this page updated?
New admin-published notices appear automatically at the top. Each notice shows its actual publication and edit time. “Daily Updates” is an editorial workflow, not a claim that every location is checked every day.
What if a notice is overdue for review?
It is marked “Recheck needed.” A missed review does not establish a reopening or permission. Confirm the latest position with the responsible land manager.
What do the GPS coordinates mean?
The precision label explains whether a point is an entrance, site reference, approximate location or unverified coordinate. A pin is not a property boundary.
