Rockhounding in Goa
Goa currently has 83 sourced map records in this explorer. Goa is geologically much richer than its small size suggests. Official sources document iron and manganese belts around Bicholim, Sattari and Sanguem, widespread laterite and named bauxite areas from Pernem to Canacona, South Goa silica-sand localities, river pebbles, and the scientifically important Usgaon–Bondla ultramafic complex with chromite and PGM research context. None of those occurrence records automatically establishes a right to collect.

Why Goa has important laterite, bauxite, iron, manganese and ultramafic geology
Goa sits on Precambrian Dharwar-craton rocks overlain by extensive laterite. IBM records major haematite and magnetite resources plus manganese and bauxite, while the state DGM names numerous bauxite/laterite occurrence areas and mining belts. South Goa also has documented silica-sand deposits, and Usgaon–Bondla adds chromite-bearing layered mafic-ultramafic geology. The explorer separates scientific occurrence from mine access, coastal removal rules and mineral rights.

Access and collecting rules
Goa combines laterite and bauxite plateaus with a major Precambrian iron–manganese belt, silica-sand coastlines, river-pebble systems and the Usgaon–Bondla mafic-ultramafic complex. Mines, leases, sand-extraction contexts and industrial mineral deposits are reference-only unless public collecting access is independently established.
